NightTide Metal Works
Welcome to the home of NightTide Metal Works my name is David Masse owner and resident artist. I have lived in New England my whole life. My smithy is located in the picturesque, coastal town of Kittery, Maine. It was stick built using locally harvested and milled Hemlock and salvage lumber. Raised with the hard work of good friends, it is still a work in progress.
I am a sculptural and traditional blacksmith. Predominantly self-taught with some basic training in blacksmithing, welding and mechanical drawing. I have been working with metal in some form or another since high school,I have been blacksmithing for over 15 years. It was not until later in life that I started working towards doing what I love. Most of my inspiration comes from the environment around me and has a folk art twist. My favorite techniques are the result of experimentation's and failures that I build upon and learned from. Most of my work is made using metals from local scrap yards. I use a combination of new and traditional techniques and tools.
My work includes stock and commissioned pieces. One of my fish sculptures was part of the Inaugural Exhibition at the Sarah Orne Jewett House Museum. I created a life size super hero sculpture that was part of the Ascent / Descent installation at the Children's Museum in Dover NH. Additionally my sculptures have been sold at Oh My Gosh Collectables in Massachusetts and different vendors at the Brimfield Fair. I have had other sculptures shown at Buoy Gallery in Kittery Maine, LGP Gallery in Newmarket, NH. Mixtmedia Gallery in Ipswich, MA. The Galleries at Morning Walk in Kennebunk Maine and Engine Gallery in Biddeford ME. At Jonny Boston's International in NH. and Wrong Brain Bazaar in NH. and Great Bay Stewards. I am always looking to show in new galleries and locations.
