NightTide Metal Works
Welcome to the home of NightTide Metal Works my name is David Masse owner and resident artist. I have lived in New England my whole life but have traveled to and worked in a variety of areas in the US, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. My smithy is located in the picturesque, coastal town of Kittery, Maine. It is stick built using locally harvested, milled Hemlock and salvage lumber. Raised with the hard work of good friends, it is still a work in progress. I am a sculptural and traditional blacksmith. I am predominantly self-taught with some basic training in blacksmithing, welding and mechanical drawing. I have been working with metal in some form or another since high school, blacksmithing for over 15 years. It was not until later in life that I started working towards doing what I love. Most of my inspiration comes from the environment around me and has a folk art twist. My favorite techniques are the result of experimentations and failures that are built upon and learned from. Most of my work is made using metals from local scrap yards. I use a combination of new and traditional techniques and tools. Being one of those strange people that inspiration can strike at any time, the need to get that inspiration into a solid form becomes a flurry of action. My work includes commissioned pieces, and additionally has been sold at Oh My Gosh Collectables in Massachusetts, the Brimfield Fair and has been shown at Buoy Gallery in Kittery Maine and LGP Gallery in Newmarket, NH.
